Mend.2 : Textile Art Showcase 23’

When relocating to Memphis, I was shocked to find such a vibrant underground art community in the south end of downtown. Full of art lovers and makers sharing their creative talents ranging from pottery to metal working. Coming from an art and design background this excited me and encouraged me to tap into this community. I felt a sense of urgency to have a showcase of my textile artwork.

By Picking up where I left off with my undergraduate work as interior design student. Wanting to break into the scene with a topic that I hold dear to my heart. This idea of encouraging the celebration of our threads, while discussing how current fashion is not made for our bodies.

Thus, I set out to have my first ever gallery show of work that explored this concept of ‘Mending”. Looking to mend our perspectives, habits, and ideas about fast fashion. Through conceptual handmade tactile zones that framed out topics like, inclusive sizing, custom clothing, and societal pressures.

“Mend.2” was an experience that invited you to immerse yourself in a celebration of the deeply personal and intimate connection we share with our textiles. This exhibition delved into the profound beauty and transformative power that lies within the act of mending and stitching. Each section highlighted different problems in our current retail clothing model. Aiming to challenge the current non-inclusive fashion practices and the idea that the fashion we were is more than just a throwaway.

Notice me, Notice Me, Notice ME

A collection inspired by a simple doodle that evolved into a fun way of how I think we should see our fashion. Our current model is quick, instant, and on to the next and Notice Me (times three) is quite the opposite. It is a collection of vibrant mishappen eye glass wearing characters that look to spark joy over what we wear. To encourage a movement of only wearing fashion that we love and that represents us boldly. Including all types of frames.
